Description
Pieropan La Rocca is one of the most distinctive expressions of Soave Classico, made from 100% Garganega from the historic La Rocca vineyard on Monte Rocchetta, just behind the medieval castle of Soave.
The vineyard sits on limestone-rich, clay soils and benefits from a south-western exposure. The grapes are hand-picked at the end of October, often with a second selection to choose the ripest fruit.
La Rocca is fermented in French oak tonneaux and large Slavonian oak barrels, followed by around 15 months of ageing on the fine lees. This gives the wine remarkable richness, texture and aromatic complexity while retaining the freshness of Garganega.
The nose is generous and layered, with exotic fruit, yellow peach, dried apricot, toasted nuts and almonds, followed by sweet spices such as saffron, ginger and white pepper, with delicate notes of honey and balsamic herbs. On the palate, it is full, rounded, warm and silky, with excellent balance and a long, persistent finish.
A refined Italian white wine with the structure to accompany complex dishes, including truffle and mushroom pasta, pumpkin risotto, salmon, scallops, roast veal and poultry.
