Description
Contracena Curtimenta: Portugal’s golden skin-contact wine
Contracena Curtimenta is the creative, experimental label from Quinta da Ribeirinha, a family-owned estate in the Tejo region of Portugal. Made from 100% Fernão Pires, it is a skin-contact “orange” wine with a golden colour and a bright, citrusy character. Curtimenta means skin contact in Portuguese. Imported directly by Matson’s.
How it’s made
- 7 days of skin contact during fermentation
- Native yeasts
- Aged in French oak barrels and concrete tanks for complexity and a smooth texture
Tasting notes
- Colour: deep golden
- Aroma: tangerine, orange blossom, tea and honey
- Palate: medium-bodied, with fresh citrus, nutty depth and crisp acidity
- Finish: long and lingering
Why you’ll love it
- A great introduction to orange wine: fresh and approachable, not too extreme
- Distinctive and food-friendly
- Direct import from a family estate, at €22
Food pairing
Try it with sushi and sashimi, Thai and Indian dishes, grilled fish, roast chicken, charcuterie and aged cheeses. It also works well with vegetable dishes and spices.
Serving temperature: 10–12°C. Don’t over-chill, so the aromas can open up.
